Thanksgiving Everyday

We’ve made it to the last day of October. It closes with a hush, a quieter rhythm after the brightness of summer before the rush of the holiday season is upon us. Some stores already have Christmas items on the shelves, while others are waiting for tomorrow. Tomorrow, Halloween candy and decorations will be 50% off, and soon, Christmas songs will be heard. It’s a reminder that for us, our lives are constantly changing. But in the midst of change, there’s at least one thing we can count on.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” — Psalm 107:1

New seasons invite us into a time of reflection, inviting gratitude, not just as a feeling, but as a way of life. The psalmist’s invitation to give thanks is simple, but profound: “for God is good.” Gratitude begins in our recognition of who God is, not simply what God gives, or has given, to us. God’s love endures … through every season, every storm, every shift in circumstance. When we give thanks, we anchor our hearts in God’s enduring love.

Thanksgiving shouldn’t be an occasional expression; it should be part of everyday life. When we give thanks, we are less consumed by what we lack and more attuned to the abundance of God’s presence. When we give thanks, we think less about our problems and more about God’s love.

So as the leaves fall and the nights grow longer, take time to count your blessings—not just the obvious ones, but the quiet mercies too. The strength to rise each morning. The people who love you. The steady faithfulness of God that holds you fast. Gratitude is the lens that helps us see God’s goodness everywhere.

Prayer: Faithful God, thank you for the rhythm of seasons and the constancy of your love. Teach me to live each day in gratitude, seeing your goodness even in the smallest moments. May a thankful heart become my daily act of worship. Amen.
